"Posing & Lighting: Creating the Difference"

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

My formal training at Brooks Institute of Photography has given me a firm photographic foundation to build on.  Upon graduating as Outstanding Student of the Year, I returned to a small Midwestern community where I serviced a wide spectrum of photographic needs.  I produced a variety of tabletop catalog images for a range of companies from Napa Auto Parts, Sierra Marine Parts and back to school clothing for the May Company and sporting equipment for Schutt Manufacturing.  Dealing with clientele from Chicago to St Louis, imaging eye surgery in the morning to being lowered into the cyclone furnace of an Illinois power plant in the afternoon.  I have photographed architectural assignments hanging from the open door of a helicopter above downtown St Louis while soothing a terrified art director.  Photographing social events from San Francisco to New York to Switzerland has taught me to roll with the punches, change directions on the run, deal with art directors, mother in-laws, spoiled brides and flower girls diplomatically.

My photographic experience includes 35mm, medium, large format (4x5 - 8x10) and digital capture. I have taught weeklong intensive training courses on tabletop production and commercial lighting for the Professional Photographers of Americas Continuing Educational System for almost 20 years. I personally color manage my images to utilize many different printing options and am familiar with each step of the process from digital capture to final output.  As the previous owner of two successful photography studios, I possess a strong understanding of the needs of photographers.  Currently I conduct studio consultations and presentations for professional associations, both of which have strengthened my ability to teach and learn
